Welcome to Peter Cheung's China tour Web site for one of my best experience in traveling. Trip report section has written descriptions of the trip by day and photo gallery has over 100 pictures all taken during the trip.. There are many extra information for traveling in China with many web links to other sites some in English and some in Chinese. If you want pictures do the talking, go to the Photo Gallery for hundreds of them.
Also I am in the process of setting up a series of individual web sites for some cities of China and major historic and cultural sites during this trip. It will be completed by a web site containing as many links to traveling in China with comments as I can find. The whole project may take 6 to 9 months to complete and I hope to finish most of them by the end of 2004.
I have just completed a 9 day tour of the middle part of China and it was one of the best traveling experience I have in my life. This web site is to document and provide information for those who is looking for traveling information in the middle part of China for it's historical sites. The tour I took is a budget tour and most hotels are 4 stars offer by International Tour Center (ITC). I have taken more VIPs private tours or deluxe tours with all 5 star hotels then budget tours and yet I rated this tour as one of the best I have ever taken. We left Saturday afternoon from San Francisco and arrived Beijing after a 13.5 hour flight. It was about 5pm Sunday Beijing time and stay at the Capital Hotel. Next morning we went to Datong and stay at Yungang International Hotel. Next morning we went to Taiyuan and stay in the Shanxi Grand Hotel. Next morning went to Pingyao and then Yuncheng and stay at Yuncheng Grand Hotel. Next morning went to LuoYang and then Zhengzhou and stay at Xingyajianguo Hotel (a super 5 star hotel) Next morning we visited Kaifeng and stay in the same hotel in Zhengzhou that night. The next morning we went to AnYang and then back to Beijing. We left Beijing and took a 2pm flight back to San Francisco via Shanghai. This trip is for those who are interested in the ancient history of China. Almost all the cities we visited are capitals sometime in the history of China. We also have about 5 very special meals that are famous local feast (not just one or two dishes but the whole feast). This is not a vacation trip to Hawaii, or Disneyworld, or to Beijing and Shanghai and other big cities. It is not a relax trip or a luxurious trip. Some sites have very few foreign visitors. About 20% of the toilets are local smelly type. All photos in the photo gallery are taken during this trip (80% by myself 15% by my wife). So if you see a picture we saw them on our trip and not from any other sources. Since I did not plan to make a web site of the trip when I was on the tour I most of my pictures has someone in the picture and not just the sceneries. So the pictures are not perfect for this web site and definitely not for marketing and sale purposes. But they are really the experience of this tour. All pictures in the picture gallery are pictures I captured mostly from VCD and DVD and are not taken during the trip. They may contain pictures of sites we did not see during the trip. Because we only have very limited amount of time we can visit only the best sites along the way. There are many more places that should be visited if you have extra time. In the trip report I also include pages of information of sites that we did not cover on the trip. They are included in the links "city name info". Within the links of city info you should be able to find links to all major sites of the city we visited. Those information are from different sites and put together for your convenience. Since they come from many different sites it will take you a long time if you do the search yourself.
